اكبر جزيرة في العالم هي جزيرة غرينلاند الواقعة شرقي شمالي القارة الامريكية بين المحيط الاطلسي و المحيط المتجمد الشمالي وقد اكتشفها البحار الايسلندي اريك الاحمر وذلك سنة 1000م وهي مغطاة بالثلوج دائما وتنبت بها بعض النباتات القطبية وهي تابعة اليوم للدنمارك وفيها بعض المستوطنات قليلة السكان وهناك من يعتق ان اكبر جزيرة في العالم هي افريقيا وذلك بعد افتتاح قناة السويس.
