منطقة شاسعة غربي الولايات المتحدة محصورة بين جبال روكي غربا وسير انفادا شرقا تبلغ مساحة الحوض 518 الف كم مربع وهو اقرب الى شكل  مثلث قاعدته في الشمال ويشمل اقساما من بعض الولايات المحتدة الامريكية. وهو واقع بين ثلاث انهار كولومبيا وكولورادو وريوغراندة. تخترق الحوض مجموعة سلاسل جبلية تتجه من الشمال الى الجنوب وتفصل بينهما وديان عميقة تجري فيها بعض الانهار تبتلعها الاغوار وفيها كذلك بعض البحيرات.

A vast area west of the United States is confined between the Rocky Mountains to the west and the East Indo-Sirway, with a basin area of 518,000 square kilometers, which is closer to the shape of a triangular base in the north that includes parts of some of the United States. It is located between the three rivers of Colombia, Colorado and Rio Grande. The basin penetrates a series of mountain ranges going from north to south and separated by deep valleys where some rivers are swallowed by rivers and some lakes.
